Bahamas: Canadian donation strengthens response to COVID-19

19 September 2020

The government of Canada recently donated 5 million Canadian dollars to the Pan American Health Organization (WHO/PAHO) of which CAD $677 000 will help the Bahamas’ fight against COVID-19.

So far, the funds have gone toward developing an online contact tracing course, procuring personal protective equipment (PPE), obtaining lab supplies and supporting testing.

Canada has been a longstanding partner to the Bahamas and has moved decisively to help tackle the pandemic in the Caribbean nation. The recent assistance is meant to bolster the health sector’s response, shorten recovery and save lives.

Throughout the pandemic WHO/PAHO has continued to strengthen health systems, reduce the impact of COVID19, support research, provide essential supplies to frontline health workers and protect vulnerable populations.

WHO thanks all donors and partners who have contributed to fund the Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan to combat COVID-19. A special appreciation goes to Member States and other contributors who provided flexible funds, making it possible for WHO to deliver a coherent, strategic and broad response.
