As a result a joint effort of the Health Department (SESAL), PAHO/WHO, WFP and the Canadian Air Force, the first of two planned humanitarian flights containing PPE such as respirators, face shields, and masks landed in Tegucigualpa, Honduras. The two flights will carry a total of 25 tons of PPE worth 23 million Lempiras to be delivered to health workers on the frontlines of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The supplies were procured by SESAL through the COVID-19 supply chain established by PAHO/WHO and other UN organizations as part of their global commitment to accelerate the procurement of PPE and basic health supplies at the lowest cost possible on the international market.
While PAHO/WHO and WFP coordinated logistical aspects of the flights, transportation was secured with the support of Canadian Air Force aircrafts. WHO also included in the shipment supplies procured through a donation from the Jack Ma Chinese Foundation.
