The European Union (EU), working closely with WHO, is supporting Mongolia in mitigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and strengthening the country’s response measures and preparedness. The EU, together with the Minister of Health (MoH) and the WHO, launched a joint “Mongolia COVID-19 Crisis Response” project. The EU is providing funds and WHO is providing additional funds as well as technical guidance to Mongolia’s health sector and beyond over the course of three years as a complement to the national preparedness plan for COVID-19.
Mongolia does not currently have local transmission of COVID-19. However, the number of cases continue to increase in other countries. As part of the readiness project Mongolia will focus on strengthening laboratory capacity, preparedness of essential health care services, surveillance, and monitoring and evaluation.
The joint initiative between the MoH, the EU and WHO also aims to be a long-term investment in Mongolia’s health system
WHO thanks all donors and partners who have contributed to fund the Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan to combat COVID-19. A special appreciation goes to Member States and other contributors who provided flexible funds, making it possible for WHO to deliver a coherent, strategic and broad response.
