Nigeria: ‘Flying Doctors’ supported by WHO boost COVID-19 testing

30 October 2020

Nigerian health investment firm Flying Doctors, working with WHO and Nigeria’s Centre for Disease Control (CDC), has set up mobile booths for COVID-19 testing in the country.

The booths, operating in the country’s worst-affected states, separate the sample collector from the people being tested and have significantly increased COVID-19 testing.

Previously collectors would take samples in private homes, heightening infections risks through exposure. In addition to protecting frontline health workers, the practice saves time and money.

WHO continues to support Nigeria’s CDC and the national response system by providing resources for training and supplies for sample collection and testing.

WHO thanks all donors and partners who have contributed to fund the Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan to combat COVID-19. A special appreciation goes to Member States and other contributors who provided flexible funds, making it possible for WHO to deliver a coherent, strategic and broad response.
