Peru: Canada and WHO/PAHO donations to help health personnel

8 October 2020

The Pan American Health Organization with the financial support of the Government of Canada donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to protect Peruvian health personnel who have been working tirelessly to save lives during the COVID-19 pandemic. The PPE donation consists of masks (12 500), nitrile gloves (25 000), apron (25 000), head covers (12 500), gowns (5400) and protective lenses (2000). The timely donation coincides with and thus works to strengthen the start of the vaccination campaign.

The Government of Canada invested C$ 261 000 (about US$ 193 000) in the acquisition of PPE and the strengthening of the emergency response in Loreto, through the improvement of laboratory diagnostic capacity, situation room equipment and triage and care capacity at the Regional Hospital of Loreto.

WHO thanks all donors and partners who have contributed to fund the Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan to combat COVID-19. A special appreciation goes to Member States and other contributors who provided flexible funds, making it possible for WHO to deliver a coherent, strategic and broad response.
