Unlike some countries where the virus is contained in big cities, almost all regions of Uganda have reported cases of COVID-19. Therefore, the Ministry of health with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and partners, has intensified community engagement interventions to stop the outbreak in the communities. District Task Forces (DTF) have been set up in all districts to spearhead the response at the community level. DTFs have developed or updated risk communication plans to help guide districts on how to respond to pandemic and how to mobilize resources and partner support. DTF members also mobilize citizens at the sub-county level. There they participate in radio talk shows, supervise the translation of information materials into the local language and participate in community dialogue sessions. Sub-county teams work to develop community engagement by conducting home visits, distributing IEC materials, advising people on physical distancing and conducting regular community meetings. The Community Based Disease Surveillance (CBDS) system has also played a major role at Ugandan borders to detect and track COVID-19 cases. Community-based work is the strategic focus of Uganda and its partners in their fight against COVID-19.
