WHO donation supports Congo women’s cooperatives’ role in fighting COVID-19

16 June 2020

The WHO Representation Office in the Congo partnered with the United Nations to make a donation in mask-making supplies to the Congo’s Ministry of Health as part of its promotion of health and the advancement of women’s work. Supplies include 85 sewing machines, 85 pairs of scissors, 8500 poplin fabrics, 255 rolls of sewing thread, 340 rolls of elastic thread and 85 manuals for making mask. The donation promotes and acknowledges the role women’s activities play in the fight against COVID-19. WHO Representative in the Congo, Dr. Lucien Manga, said that it would serve  to revitalize and give courage to women’s cooperatives helping their nation battle the pandemic. Since 18 May, all people in open and closed places in the Congo have been obligated to wear a mask, so this donation of mask-supplies is particularly timely and helpful.
