WHO helps establish Incident Management System to boost Senegal’s COVID-19 response

Less than two weeks after the first COVID-19 case was reported in Senegal’s southern region, WHO experts joined health officials in Sédhiou to strengthen the region’s prevention and control of infection (PCI) by establishing an incident management system. Actions taken included a WHO-led PCI training for local health workers and the evaluation of five health facilities in Sédhiou. Dr. Mady Bâ was appointed incident manager as part of the new system. He works closely with the WHO Resident Representative and other partners in developing strategies to support Senegal as the health crisis evolves. With the help of an Incident Manager, a region or country can better coordinate a response to a public health event with clear procedures.
