WHO/PAHO strengthens water and sanitation systems in Paraguay

11 May 2020

The Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO) has teamed up with the Paraguayan Ministry of Justice to improve the sanitation systems for three youth educational centers and three penitentiaries. The new infrastructure includes 10 000-20 000-liter tanks that will offer clean water and hand-washing opportunities to these individuals deprived of freedom. The installation began last week in the towns of Villarrica, Concepción and Ciudad del Este. The WHO/PAHO representative to the country, Luis Roberto Escoto, says the Organization is committed to working with the Paraguayan Ministry of Justice to continue improving the lives of these individuals lacking freedom. In addition to addressing sanitation health concerns, they plan to target mental health, HIV and tuberculosis.
