Her Royal Highness Princess Muna Al Hussein of Jordan officially opened the 7th Triad meeting on Nursing and Midwifery and the 8th biennial Global Forum for Government Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officers (GCNMOs), earlier today.
The GCNMO is held every two years just before the World Health Assembly, with the main objective of engaging the nursing and midwifery leadership in discussing relevant issues to the profession and seeking their input into the proceedings of the WHA. The Triad meeting (with the WHO, International Council of Nurses (ICN), the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) serves as an opportunity to connect GCNMOs to relevant stakeholders and decision-makers in national and international associations and with regulatory bodies and professional councils.

Objectives
The objective of the meetings are to support nursing and midwifery leadership at national, regional and international levels to in the context of broader health workforce, health systems and global health priorities in the Agenda for Sustainable Development, including agenda items in the World Health Assembly.
Expected outcomes
The expected outcomes of the GCNMO forum and Triad meeting are that all participants are conversant with and able to inform their respective Ministries and Associations on:
- Agenda of the 71st World Health Assembly, including the 13th General Programme of Work (2019-2023);
- Existing World Health Assembly resolutions and accompanying WHO, ICN and ICM strategies, tools and policy frameworks to inform nursing and midwifery policy dialogue at national, regional and international levels;
- 2018-2020 events, actions and opportunities in the context of the Agenda for Sustainable Development and global health to inform national advocacy, planning and action;
- Health labour market and return on investment methodologies to inform policy dialogue and investments in nursing and midwifery;
- Implementation and validation of National Health Workforce Accounts for reporting to the 72nd World Health Assembly.
- Report of an accountability survey on the implementation of the SDNM 2016-2020.
