Action briefs detailing initiatives in different countries to improve the quality of HIV care delivered to people living with HIV (PLHIV) have been released on the WHO Global Learning Laboratory (GLL) for Quality Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The briefs build on two technical guidance issued by WHO, namely, the 2020 consolidated guidelines on HIV prevention, testing, treatment, service delivery and monitoring: recommendations for a public health approach, and the 2019 technical guidance on maintaining and improving quality of care within HIV clinical services. These briefs focus on quality assurance and improvement applied to HIV programmes, their results and what was learned from implementation experiences. These briefs were developed in the context of a WHO HIV Quality of Care Technical Working Group and GLL for Quality UHC collaboration, which focuses on sharing learning on HIV quality of care.

The action briefs look at:

  • Mitigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Antiretroviral Treatment for PLHIV: a focus on Sierra Leone.
  • Routine HIV viral load testing in Mali: community-led monitoring & advocacy for the test that counts.
  • Community monitoring through Community Advisory Boards for improving client-centred services and effective health collaboration in Vietnam.

These action briefs are now available on the WHO GLL for Quality UHC knowledge platform. If you would like to learn more about these enterprising initiatives to improve the quality of HIV care delivered to PLHIV, visit the resource center (technical products folder) of the GLL knowledge platform or please click here.
