Reading time:

WHO has made available the membership of the Guidelines Development Group (GDG) for the update of the WHO "Consolidated Guidelines for use of antiretrovirals for preventing and treating HIV infection." These guidelines will be updated with relevant WHO guidance released since 2016 and also include new recommendations.

The virtual meeting of the Clinical GDG will be held from 28 September – 2 October 2020. The objective of this Guidelines meeting is to formulate recommendations on:

  • the use of the dapivirine containing vaginal ring in women at substantial risk of HIV infection;
  • the use of point-of-care NAT test in children under 18 months of age;
  • the use of point-of-care NAT tests (viral load) to monitor treatment in PLHIV; the treatment monitoring algorithm, timing of viral load and threshold for treatment failure; and
  • TB/HIV coinfection management.

In line with WHO policy on conflict of interest, members of the public and interested organizations can access the biographies of the GDG members and inform WHO of their views about them. All comments should be sent by email to hiv-aids@who.int by 25 September 2020.
