The group of 13 Principals of the Global Action Plan for Healthy Lives and Well-being for All (SDG3 GAP) have
shared a joint letter with their agencies’ country facing teams to ask that they continue to support the SDG3 GAP commitments and identify ways to further deepen and scale joint work at country level. The letter has also been shared with UN Resident / Humanitarian
Coordinators as their support for SDG3 GAP is crucial to facilitate and encourage joint action in health and beyond.
While recognising that ending the COVID-19 pandemic remains the highest priority, the heads of agencies have acknowledged that gradual shifts, flexible approaches and enhanced collaboration in support of countries’ recovery from the impact of COVID-19
toward the SDGs are required.
Specifically, Principals ask their country teams to determine how and where to build strong and purposeful collaborations and, to work with the other SDG3 GAP agencies to jointly plan, monitor, promote equity and align with process beyond the health sector. In
turn, Principals stand ready to support their country teams from the regional and global levels through eight communities of practice (including primary health care and on gender equality), a monitoring framework to assess the quality of collaboration
and alignment and identifying catalytic resources to enable joint work at country level. Country teams are encouraged to inform the Principals on how they can better support the country teams to actualize SDG3 GAP commitments.
The aim in dispatching the joint letter is to increase awareness of, and interest in, the SDG3 GAP across the SDG3 GAP agencies and other UN Country Team members. This would enable them to fully leverage it to collectively deliver on the commitment to achieve healthy lives and well-being for those they serve.
