The WHO (2018) competency framework for health workers’ education and training on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) provides a menu of knowledge, skills and attitudes for health workers. The Competency Framework is designed to be used as a reference guide and incorporated into pre-service and in-service training so that all health workers are equipped with the requisite competencies to address AMR in policy and in practice.

Its publication supports WHO and Member States efforts to implement the first objective of the 2015 Global Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (GAP AMR), which is to improve awareness and understanding of AMR through effective communication, education and training. The WHO Strategic and Technical Advisory Group on AMR continues to advise on further plans, initiatives and activities to tackle AMR.
