Departmental update
Reading time:

WHO has made available the membership of the Guidelines Development Group (GDG) for the update of their Guidelines for HIV post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) (2023). This proposed update to the existing PEP guidelines will include new recommendations about how best to expand access to PEP.

GDG members will be asked to participate in peer review of systematic reviews, evidence summaries, technical updates and proposed text for the final guidance document. GDG members will also be asked to attend the final GDG meeting, which will be held in a virtual format, over 2 afternoons on 8 and 9 November 2023.

The objectives of this guideline are related to SDG 3.3 and include:

  1. To provide new recommendations about service delivery approaches to improve uptake and completion of PEP in order to prevent new HIV infections.
  2. To promote the use of PEP in different settings and for different populations to increase equitable access to HIV prevention.

In line with WHO policy on conflict of interest, members of the public and interested organizations can access the biographies of the GDG members and inform WHO of their views about them. All comments should be sent by email to hiv-aids@who.int by 20 October 2023.
