Preventing suicide : a resource for teachers and other school staff

Overview

Suicide is a complex phenomenon and its prevention requires the involvement of a wide range of people and groups. One of them are schoolteachers and other school staff, such as school counsellors, school doctors, nurses and social workers, and members of school boards of governors, who are the primary audience of this resource. It describes the dimension of suicidal behaviour in adolescence, presents the main protective and risk factors behind this behaviour, and indicates how to identify and manage persons at risk and also how to act when there is a suicide attempt or suicide in the school community.
