Preventing suicide: a resource for establishing a crisis line

Overview

Crisis lines typically provide services to people in the community and particularly to persons thinking about suicide. They offer non-judgemental and confidential emotional support in times of personal crisis when people may feel unable to cope with the challenges in their lives. Crisis lines help alleviate the distress a person may be experiencing and can reduce the intensity of such feelings to enable problem-solving and practical actions to be considered in response to personal problems. Crisis lines play an important complementary role in suicide prevention efforts.
