Overview
The primary purpose of surveillance for yellow fever is to detect outbreaks early enough to allow timely and effective control measures to be put in place. Through continuous surveillance, populations at risk can be identified, and appropriate preventive strategies planned and implemented. Over time, good surveillance helps to identify factors that may put populations at increased risk, and permit assessment of the impact of public health interventions designed to reduce the burden of disease.
