IPCS Risk Assessment Terminology

IPCS harmonization project document n. 1

Overview

The WHO/IPCS Harmonization Project has addressed a number of exposure assessment issues, resulting in this guidance and in the IPCS harmonization project documents n. 3 and n.6 as well.

The objective of this joint IPCS/OECD project was to develop internationally harmonized terms used in chemical hazard/risk assessment. In addition, a harmonized set of exposure assessment terms has been developed to facilitate communication and consistency of language used in the exposure sciences. These risk assessment and exposure assessment terms are published in a two-part document which will facilitate the mutual use and acceptance of chemical assessments between countries, thus saving resources. Target users of the harmonized terms include health and environment risk assessment professionals in regulatory and other areas.
