GLASS manual on the management of antimicrobial consumption data
Global Antimicrobial Resistance and Use Surveillance System (GLASS)

Overview
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a significant public health threat, affecting our ability to treat a range of infections. Use of antimicrobials is the main driver for the development of AMR. Data from surveillance of antimicrobial consumption (AMC) are essential to tackle AMR and improve the management of infections. As part of the Global Antimicrobial Resistance and Use Surveillance System (GLASS), GLASS-AMC provides a common technical basis for setting up national surveillance systems on AMC and producing standardised AMC data.
This manual summarizes the WHO methodology for a global programme on surveillance of AMC, and guides countries on how to:
- use the GLASS-AMC Microsoft Excel template to prepare the national AMC surveillance data according to the WHO methodology;
- produce national AMC data files to foster AMC data analysis at national level; and
- facilitate the preparation of the AMC national data for submission to GLASS-AMC
