Human Resources for Health leadership and management: Overview
Overview

Overview
The Human Resources for Health (HRH) curricula package structures three curricula to recognize, formalize and build a critical mass of leaders and managers in the much needed area of HRH. The courses address the leadership of HRH around the dynamics of the health labour market, and aim to develop competencies to strengthen leadership in HRH development in the following domains: policy and planning; management; communication; information and communication technology; data management, analysis and intelligence; and research.
The Overview document is an accompaniment to each of the three prototype curricula for a one year master’s course, one-month and executive short course in Human Resources for Health leadership and management, published separately along with case studies, a facilitator guide and an HRH glossary of terms.
This document provides an overview of the key concepts underpinning the development of the three prototype curricula for consideration by institutions wishing to reference the prototype curricula in updating or developing course content. It outlines the rationale for the courses’ development and provides context around the health labour market framework approach and the HRH leadership focus. It also provides the key domains of study across each of the three courses, as well as their scope, learning objectives and structure; as well as suggestions for teaching and learning methods; institutional requirements; assessment; and course evaluation.
The overview document also provides the acknowledgements for the development of the prototype curricula package.
WHO intends for the prototype curriculum package to inform courses and programmes relating to human resources for health.
