Research and development technology roadmap for invasive non-typhoidal Salmonella vaccines against invasive disease

Overview

Invasive non-typhoidal serovars of Salmonella enterica, S. Typhimurium and S. Enteritidis, (iNTS) were estimated to cause over 500 000 invasive disease illnesses associated with more than 79 000 deaths in the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation Global Burden of Disease Study in 2019 with a high case fatality ratio of 14.5%.

Vaccine development technology roadmaps produced by WHO are developed in collaboration with global stakeholders and aim to highlight priority activities to accelerate the pathway to licensure, availability and access in low- and middle-income countries.  The target audience is vaccine researchers, funders and product developers. The present roadmap outlines strategic goals for iNTS vaccine development by addressing evidence gaps, accelerating vaccine development, and maximizing health impact.
