Report on malaria in Nigeria 2022

Overview

Nigeria carries the highest burden of malaria globally, accounting for approximately 27% of malaria cases and 31% of malaria deaths in 2021. As one of the 11 countries supported under the “High Burden to High Impact” (HBHI) approach, Nigeria has been a leader in implementing data-informed strategies to tailor interventions sub-nationally. The country has also established an integrated national malaria data repository that is accessible at the local government level.

This report presents a state-by-state analysis of the malaria situation in Nigeria with a focus on population demographics, malaria interventions, climate and disease burden. For each state, it covers trends in population, rainfall patterns, intervention coverage and use, malaria prevalence and incidence, and the number of malaria cases averted over time.
