Cholera: WHO Health Emergency Appeal 2024

Overview

At least 29 countries reported cholera outbreaks in 2023, collectively placing more than one billion people directly at risk of cholera. Not only are there more simultaneous outbreaks across the world with greater geographic spread, but the outbreaks are larger and more deadly than before, compounded by the effects of climate change. The number, size and concurrence of multiple outbreaks, as well as of outbreaks to new areas and high mortality rates make cholera a major threat to global health security.
