Comprehensive Review of the WHO Global Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance - Volume 2: Annexes

Overview

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the biggest global health threats of our time. AMR occurs when “bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites change over time and no longer respond to medicines making infections harder to treat and increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness and death.” As microorganisms develop a resistance to treatments, particularly antibiotics, these become less effective. As a result, there are increased risks of disease spread, prolonged illness, disability and death.
