Fifth Global School on refugee and migrant health
Advancing universal health coverage for refugees and migrants: from evidence to action

Overview
The Fifth Global School on Refugee and Migrant Health, held in Colombia from December 2–6, 2024, focused on advancing universal health coverage for refugees and migrants by translating evidence into action. With millions displaced annually due to conflicts, climate change, and other crises, migration presents both challenges and opportunities for public health and development. Aligned with the WHO Global Action Plan on Promoting the Health of Refugees and Migrants (2019–2030), the School served as a platform for governments, UN agencies, researchers, and civil society to collaborate, share best practices, and address healthcare gaps. With over 3,000 virtual participants, the event fostered inter-country and inter-regional collaboration through shared country experiences, driving actionable solutions for migrant and displaced populations worldwide. This report captures key takeaways from the 2024 Global School, highlighting strategies to build more inclusive and resilient health systems.
