Overview
The rapid pace of scientific discovery and technological advancement necessitates that the health workforce stays updated with the latest evidence-based guidelines and applies them confidently in practice. However, no country is currently on track to meet all the health-related targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Implementing new evidence-based health guidance often takes a decade or more, while medical research doubles every three months.
To accelerate the development of a skilled healthcare workforce, workers need access to efficient, evidence-based lifelong learning methods and greater ownership and engagement with their learning. In response, WHO launched the WHO Academy to invest in innovative, high-quality, and globally accessible learning solutions.
The WHO Academy aims to enhance lifelong learning capacity for the health workforce and plays a key role in achieving the overarching goal of WHO’s fourteenth general programme of work (GPW 14). The Academy supports WHO Member States in tackling challenges related to the health-related Sustainable Development targets and serves the WHO workforce as the Organization’s main learning centre, contributing to impact at national, regional, and global levels.
