WHO Radiation Emergency Medical Preparedness and Assistance Network - REMPAN Directory 2019

Overview
The REMPAN Directory 2022 is available here
The WHO’s Radiation Emergency Medical Preparedness and Assistance Network (REMPAN) was established in 1987 in order to fulfill WHO’s mandate under the two international conventions on Early Notification and Assistance in the case of a nuclear or radiological emergency (IAEA, 1986). The key purpose of the network is to support WHO’s work assisting member states in building relevant national capacities for emergency medical and public health assistance to people overexposed to radiation, as required by the International Health Regulations (2005). REMPAN’s activities scope also includes research and development in the areas of medical countermeasures against radiological and nuclear emergencies, radiation dosimetry and radiation epidemiology.
REMPAN membership
Since its inception in 1987, REMPAN expanded from four to more than forty members worldwide including medical, academic, and research institutions specializing in medical and public health fields related to the entire cycle of management of radiation emergencies (prevention, planning, response, long-term follow-up). There are three levels of membership:
- WHO Collaborating Centres – a formal status designated by the WHO in agreement with national health authorities;
- Liaison Institutions – informal relationship defined by exchange of letters of intent to collaborate on certain technical areas between WHO REMPAN secretariat and an institution;
- Observers – individual experts interested in the area of medical response to radiation
emergencies.
This directory represents the membership as of October 2019 and will be updated annually.
