Situational Assessment

| Technical document

Overview
The first step taken by all countries in WHO’s Special Initiative for Mental Health was to carry out country-specific situation analyses to better understand mental health needs, existing resources and gaps. These analyses have supported strategic consultations for Special Initiative plans and will also contribute to the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) of programme indicators.
Country-based consultants and academic partners were supported by the University of Washington to collect and analyse data on:
- the mental health context;
- mental health-related policies and plans;
- treatment coverage;
- mental health services, including community-based care; and
- monitoring, evaluation and health information systems for mental health.
Information was collected using desk reviews, key informant interviews and facility checklists. The findings have been summarized in a summary and detailed ll report for each country.
