World AIDS Day
1 December
On 1 December 2018, we mark the 30th anniversary of World AIDS Day, which was established in 1988 to create awareness about the disease and show support for people living with HIV. WHO joins global partners to commemorate the event under the theme “Know your status”.
This year we urge:
1) People to know their HIV infection status through testing, and to access HIV prevention, treatment and care services; and
2) Policy-makers to promote a “health for all” agenda for HIV and related health services, such as tuberculosis (TB), hepatitis and noncommunicable diseases.
You can continue to spread the word and start planning now by:
1) Organizing events or activities in your workplace, community, school, university.
2) Spreading the word! You can find lots of information and social media materials on our campaign website. Get active on your social media accounts and get your networks involved.
3) Reaching out to your local government representatives, local leaders or influencers and encouraging them to take action on HIV.
