World Health Assembly adopts the ‘World Together’ decision to develop a global accord on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response
Aimed at protecting the world from future infectious diseases crises, the decision adopted at the Special Session of the WHA establishes an intergovernmental negotiating body (INB) to draft and negotiate a WHO convention, agreement, or other international instrument on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response.
Next steps - The Intergovernmental negotiating body will:
- March 2022: Meet to agree on ways of working and timelines
- August 2022: Discuss progress on working draft
- May 2023: Deliver progress report to the 76th WHA
- May 2024: Submit outcome for consideration to the 77th WHA
