Health and Climate Change Global Survey

Overview

Global monitoring of national health sector response to climate change

Monitoring of national health sector response to climate change is tracked through the WHO Health and Climate Change Global Survey. The survey is sent to national health authorities and is completed in collaboration with other relevant ministries and stakeholders. Information is collected on efforts to protect populations from the most devastating health impacts of climate change and to build climate-resilient and sustainable health systems.

Key indicators focus on national health and climate change policies and plans; vulnerability and adaptation assessments; implementation; capacity-building; finance; and decarbonization and sustainability of health systems. Regular updates on these indicators provide a vital snapshot of the overall progress that governments have made and the challenges they face in achieving their health adaptation and mitigation priorities.

The WHO Health and Climate Change Global survey is conducted every three years and in addition to tracking global progress, national data are presented in the health and climate change country profiles. Member States complete a comprehensive survey questionnaire. Ninety-five WHO Member States and non-Member territories participated in the 2021 global survey

The 2021 WHO Health and Climate Change Global Survey report provides an update to the 2018 global survey.
