Health Services Performance Assessment
Assessing and monitoring health services performance based on a primary health care (PHC) approach is critical to inform: the planning and management of integrated health services and delivery channels; how to address barriers to timely access to care; and the quality improvement of services that respond to people’s needs along the full continuum of care (from health promotion and prevention to diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and palliation). However, many countries face major challenges and gaps in data systems and capacities required to effectively assess, monitor and improve the performance of high-quality integrated people-centred health services that are delivered when and where people need them, leaving no one behind.
The Health Services Performance Assessment unit is responsible for the provision of innovative methods and tools to support building country capacities in data generation, analysis and use to strengthen integrated health service delivery at all levels of the health system. Technical guidance and support are designed for easy country adaptation and use within country health sector planning, monitoring and review processes, and based on WHO normative standards for monitoring health systems and services through a PHC lens.
