Noncommunicable Diseases, Rehabilitation and Disability
We are responsible for leading, coordinating and monitoring global action to cover additional people with health services, medicines, vaccines, diagnostic and health technologies for the prevention, screening, early diagnosis and appropriate treatment of cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes. We aim to advance health equity for persons with disabilities, we have a focus on sensory impairments and bring together the work on rehabilitation from across the departments and from the 3 levels of the organization.

NCD integrated support

The mission of the NCD Integrated Support (NIS) unit is to enable integrated noncommunicable diseases services through health system strengthening using a primary health care approach.

The unit works on:

  • NCD integrated country support
  • evidence-based advocacy
  • the creation of solutions for access to NCD medicines
  • the mainstreaming of NCDs into the agendas of strategic partners, such us the Global Fund and the World Bank
  • the preparation process of the 4th High-level Meeting on NCDs
  • the mainstreaming of environmental risk factors into NCDs' work
  • the development of technical products that promote NCD integrated services.
