Parenting for Lifelong Health Programme Manuals

Thank you for your interest in the Parenting for Lifelong Health (PLH) programmes. These have been tested for their effectiveness with non-professional but well-trained and carefully supervised group facilitators. You’re welcome to have the manuals, but evidence suggests that if parenting programmes are used without properly trained facilitators they may be far less effective.

The programmes are still in development, and we are interested in working with implementing organizations to collect data to understand the conditions under which they work better or less well. If you do use the programmes, we would appreciate your collecting simple process data (on how the programme is run) and outcome data (on how parents and children do before and after the programme). This will help to improve the PLH programmes and serve children and parents better. Please contact the PLH developers if you are interested in discussing training and/or partnering with them for data collection on parentinglh@gmail.com.

The manuals for PLH for Infants and PLH for Toddlers are available in English. The PLH for Young Children and PLH for Teens manuals are available in Afrikaans, Arabic, Chichewa, Creole, Czech, French, Hindi, Luganda, Macedonian, Montenegrin, Romanian, Shona, Sotho, Swahili, Swati, Tagalog/Filipino, Thai, and Xhosa – although only the English versions have been provided here for download. We also have adaptations that have been made to include additional HIV education components and support for families reintegrating children from institutions. Please contact parentinglh@gmail.com to request access to any of the available manuals.
