UN Thematic Working Group on Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) in Thailand
Overview
The UN Thematic Working Group on NCDs in Thailand was established in April 2019 to follow-up on the recommendations of the United Nations Interagency Task Force (UNIATF) Mission on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases, which was conducted in Thailand during 28-30 August 2018. The UN Thematic Working Group on NCDs is co-chaired by the UN Resident Coordinator and the Director-General of Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), with WHO Thailand and MOPH as co-secretariat. The members comprise of representatives from government ministries, civil society organizations, and UN agencies. The terms of reference the group are:
- To follow up the implementation of recommendations of the UNIATF Mission.
- To identify bottlenecks that are limiting or slowing down progress in implementing the recommendations and seek ways of overcoming them.
- To identify support required from UN agencies in facilitating implementation of the recommendations.
- To report on progress to the UNIATF Secretariat.
- To disseminate progress at national, regional and global levels.
Three UN Thematic Working Group on NCDs meetings were conducted on 5 April 2019, 10 October 2019 and 26 November 2020 to follow up the progress and challenges as well as to discuss the ways to overcome challenges and make progress in implementing UNIATF recommendations. The 4th meeting will be organized on 25 November 2021.
