Dili, June 2: On Monday, the World Health Organization (WHO) delivered high-quality simulation equipment, mannequins, anatomical models, and a curated selection of medical books to the Universidade Católica Timorense (UCT) to enhance the institution’s teaching capacity.
The delivery includes a full set of simulation equipment for training in maternal and child health, emergency medicine and critical care. “Simulation-based training is a game-changer in modern clinical education, providing students with practical experience in a controlled environment, helping them develop competence before handling real-life patient care,” said WHO Representative Dr Arvind Mathur.
He officially handed the equipment and books to Hon’ble Chancellor, His Holiness Reverend Cardinal Virgílio do Carmo da Silva. “This institute may be just four years old, but our students are already recognised for their kindness and compassion in patient care. I want to especially thank WHO for standing with us and supporting our efforts to build a strong foundation, where we can continue to train and produce well-qualified, well-prepared doctors for the future,” Reverend Cardinal said.
Included in the package are Basic Life Support (BLS) training materials, co-created with the Ministry of Health. The locally tailored NBLS-TL course is designed to ensure that students are well-prepared to act swiftly and decisively in life-threatening situations. WHO also gave updated medical textbooks, journals, and learning materials to UCT’s library.
Additionally, WHO provided digital training materials and a simulation package that faculty can use for refresher courses and future student batches. The modular design ensures high-quality education while promoting ongoing learning and self-reliance in laboratory skills.
