Constriction Hygiene Unit (CHU) | 2053

What if you could be confident that the water you drink is safe?

Healthier people throughout the life course

The Constriction Hygiene Unit (CHU) is a silicon fibre chip that is implanted under the chin. It detects when polluted food or water is approaching the mouth, and sends electrical signals to specific facial muscles, closing the jaw and preventing potential toxins from being swallowed.

LifeStraw | 2005

Introduced in 2005, the LifeStraw is a small light-weight device that cleanses water using microfiltration technology as it is delivered to the user. It’s effective at preventing dirt, bacteria, and parasites from being consumed.

While hiking, June stopped to refill his water bottle from a seemingly clean stream. As he went to take a drink, his jaw suddenly clenched shut. This was the work of his Constriction Hygiene Unit (CHU), a small device implanted under his chin. Designed to detect pollutants, the CHU sensed polluted chemicals in the water and sent a signal to June's facial muscles, preventing him from drinking the contaminated water. Thanks to CHU, June avoided swallowing harmful chemicals. He appreciated the technology that protected him from unseen dangers, and continued his hike, reassured by the smart device within him.
