Disabilities and Rehabilitation
The Disabilities and Rehabilitation unit supports member states in improving rehabilitation within their contexts and in enabling all people with disability to achieve better health.
In view of the current and growing demand for quality rehabilitation services in the Region, the Western Pacific Regional Framework on Rehabilitation was developed and adopted by Member States in October 2018. It emphasizes the need to build a strong foundation for rehabilitation that is person-centred, focusing on people’s day to day functioning, rather than the disease. Four priority areas are proposed for Member States to strengthen rehabilitation within their contexts:
- Rehabilitation service availability and quality
- Rehabilitation governance and financing
- Rehabilitation workforce
- Rehabilitation data and research

The Disabilities and Rehabilitation unit also implements a range of activities related to the WHO Global Disability Action Plan 2014-2021: Better health for all people with disability.
