Protecting workers health
Overview
WHO Western Pacific Regional Office is engaged in protecting and promoting occupational health for all workers by implementing World Health Assembly Resolution 60.26 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). WHO collaborated with the College of Medicine Education and Research Foundation of the Seoul National University, Republic of Korea, to organize a workshop in March 2018. The workshop focused on Universal Occupational Health Coverage (UOHC) by reviewing the status of occupational health coverage percentage and the status of coverage for vulnerable workers.
The Regional Office supports Member States in the elimination of asbestos-related diseases. Since 2010, WHO has been providing support to the Ministry of Health and partners in Cambodia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic and Viet Nam for asbestos ban through provision of consultants, organization of advocacy workshops and trainings.

The quantity of asbestos Chrysotile imported into Laos alone increased from 3,375 tons in 2010 to 8,066 tons in 2013.
