Fuwai Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, the largest cardiovascular disease center in the world, has an annual caseload of 15 000 cardiac surgeries and 50 000 interventional procedures.
Percutaneous and Non-fluoroscopical Procedure (PAN)
Percutaneous and Non-fluoroscopical Procedure, or PAN procedure, is a percutaneous interventional therapy guided by ultrasound instead of x-ray and is used in more than 30 countries.
It has become a set of methodologies continuing to tackle more diseases besides atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, patent ductus arteriosus, mitral stenosis, aortic stenosis, to name a few. Due to its noticeable lower reliance on medical resources, it becomes accessible in underdeveloped areas that are medically underserved.
PAN is known to provide patients a safer, more accessible and economical treatment, without general anesthesia, open heart surgery, iatrogenic radiation or contrast agent damage. It expands procedure indications to pregnant women, patients allergic to contrast agents or with renal impairment.
