Seoul 50 Plus Foundation, an affiliate organization of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, is an innovative platform supporting the life transition and social participation of the 50+aged group.

Seoul’s effort to building a workforce ecosystem for the 50+aged group

With an average age of retirement from lifetime main job falling to as low as 49, thanks to an extended lifespan, the majority of people 50 years and older are returning to the work force for various reasons. Seoul has been providing employment services for people over aged 50 to find their work fit for their purposes; be it economic, social and self-development. Seoul supports this aged group to actively retain their social and economic activities with a variety of work options by:

  1. developing work models fit for people aged 50 and over,
  2. providing reemployment and career development opportunities through bridge jobs (i.e. 50+internships),
  3. supporting people aged 50 or over to start a business and,
  4. providing social contribution activities.

The objective is to support people aged 50 or over, or 23% of Seoul’s population, to participate in social activities without discrimination and extend their work life so that they can enjoy independent and high-quality life with physical, social and mental healthiness as they age.
