Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) is the largest university in Malaysia with 35 campuses and almost 200 000 students. Its teaching hospital in north Kuala Lumpur serves a population of 1.5 million people. MyHeart STEMI was made possible by a collaboration between UiTM and University Malaya, and is supported by the Malaysian National Cardiac Society and the Ministry of Health Malaysia.
MyHeart STEMI
MyHeart STEMI is a calculator that predicts short and long term death risk in Asian patients with heart attacks by using algorithms based on 100 000 patient data. It performs 150% better in accuracy compared to currently available tools.
MyHeart STEMI also identifies the death risk for patients undergoing cardiac catheterization, thus useful for early identification of patients who would benefit from urgent coronary intervention. This will help rural or urban hospitals where cardiologist expertise is limited. Doctors will be able to better predict those patients at high risk of death to be referred on to specialist cardiac centres for urgent care.
This innovation could save cost by reducing unnecessary cardiac catheterisation in patients with heart attacks.
