Key messages

  • Developing and implementing well-designed digital health solutions requires careful attention to trust, privacy, security, governance, inclusivity and user experience.
  • Well-designed digital health solutions can complement health system-strengthening efforts to reach the unreached, but it is not a panacea. Digital health initiatives must be part of the wider health needs and the digital health ecosystem.
  • It is crucial to identify who is not being reached, understand why, and address the barriers to providing quality health services to all.
  • Quality, timely, respectful, and efficient care through service delivery and Universal Health Coverage must be at the core of digital health.
  • Sustainable investment in enabling technology is needed to realize the promise of digital health.
