The Equity and Social Determinants (ESD) unit collaborates with Member States and other stakeholder groups to advance the Sustainable Development Goals by addressing the underlying social determinants of health. ESD supports countries to develop and implement health policies and programmes that enhance health equity, integrate pro-poor, gender-responsive, and human rights-based approaches. ESD works with partners to strengthen responses to gender-based violence and to address the health needs of vulnerable populations such as older people, migrants and ethnic minorities.
