Connecting diverse stakeholders for the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021-2030)
2021-2030 is the United Nations (UN) Decade of Healthy Ageing: a global collaboration led by WHO that brings together governments, civil society, international agencies, professionals, academia, the media, and the private sector to improve the lives of older people, their families, and the communities in which they live.
Through endorsement of the Decade of Healthy Ageing’s action plan by the World Health Assembly and proclamation of 2021 - 2030 as the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing by the UN General Assembly in 2020, Member States have stressed the importance of fostering and strengthening partnering among stakeholders around the world to generate meaningful and lasting change during the Decade. By connecting stakeholders across sectors, regions, and disciplines, we can facilitate sharing of resources, good practices, and lessons learned on developing and implementing policies and practices that help create a world where all people can live long, healthy lives.
In response to the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing’s call for collaborative action, WHO is working with partners to:
- Develop, improve, and run the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing knowledge exchange Platform: an online, multi-lingual collaboration space that connects users with others stakeholders and initiatives working to foster healthy ageing
- Convene the Healthy Ageing Collaboration: an informal network for stakeholders to work together to improve the lives of older people, their families and communities
- Connect with existing and upcoming structures and partnerships that address aspects of ageing and health, including the Inter-Agency Group on Ageing, the WHO Clinical Consortium on Healthy Ageing, the WHO Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities, and the WHO Consortium on Metrics and Evidence for Healthy Ageing
