Donating high‐quality medicines and diagnostics for the control of STH in children

WHO donates high‐quality benzimidazoles (albendazole or mebendazole) to Member States for the control of STH in children. Every year, after submitting a report on the coverage results from the previous year to WHO, countries in need of benzimidazoles for STH control may request the number of anthelminthic tablets they plan to distribute for the upcoming year.

Since 2012, more than 3.3 billion tablets have been provided to endemic countries in need through donations managed by WHO. Only in 2020 were more than 477 million tablets donated, enabling coverage of more than 60% of children in need of treatment for STH.

WHO also procures and donates diagnostic material for the conduct of periodic surveys to assess the epidemiology and the impact of STH control interventions.
