Mexico City (Ciudad de México) is the capital and largest city of Mexico. With a population of 8 985 339 (2015), it is the most populous city in Latin America. The population of Mexico City alone represent 7.52% of the total urban population of Mexico.

A project has been initiated within the city’s flagship project on noncommunicable diseases, Health in your Life (Salud en tu Vida), to use a rights-based approach to health. It builds on existing legislation such as a law on civil society participation. The project is being implemented in the Gustavo A. Madero borough. The main issue is the multiple levels of governance, and the aim of the project is to enhance intersectoral collaboration and civic engagement. An ad-hoc coordination committee was established in the locality to facilitate multi-sectoral dialogue. The committee is consulting on methods for engagement and priority-setting adapted to their context.
