WHO Special Initiative for Mental Health

The WHO’s Director General’s Special Initiative for Mental Health aims to strengthen Jordan’s mental health system to improve access to mental health services and safeguard the rights of persons living with mental health conditions. 


Strengthening Mental Health Systems

Through activities under the Special Initiative for Mental Health, Jordan is strengthening mental health systems across the country. This includes: 

  

  1. Integrating postpartum depression assessments and reports at maternity and child health clinics. 

  1. Strengthening uptake of the newly endorsed Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (No.20, 2017), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Higher Council for Rights of Persons with Disabilities. 

  1. Scaling-up training using the WHO Regional School Mental Health Programme throughout Jordan, in collaboration with the Royal Health Awareness Society. 

  1. Strengthening mental health governance by developing terms of reference and workplans for the Ministry of Health Directorate for Mental Health and Disabilities.
