17th meeting of the Strategic and Technical Advisory Group for Neglected Tropical Diseases

11 – 12 October 2023

The 17th meeting of the WHO Strategic and Technical Advisory Group (STAG) for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) will be held at WHO headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland on 11–12 October 2023. Attendance will be both in-person and virtual.

Themes discussed will include: follow-up on previous STAG-NTD recommendations; advocacy and resource mobilization; One Health; yaws eradication; progress, challenge and priorities of the different NTD working groups; noma; climate change & COP28.

STAG-NTD is the principal advisory group to WHO for the control, elimination and eradication of NTDs, and reports directly to the Director-General of WHO. Its mandate is to advise WHO on overall global policies and strategies, ranging from monitoring of implementation to delivery and linkages with other health interventions. Its remit is to facilitate and monitor the coverage of control interventions and to provide WHO with high-quality, well considered advice and recommendations on matters described in its terms of reference.

STAG-NTD members are currently seventeen. They all have a range of technical knowledge, skills and experience relevant to NTDs, and are familiar with the challenges faced by programmes and partners within the context of health systems in NTD-endemic countries. STAG-NTD is chaired by Professor David Mabey.
